up till now some people are still finding it difficult to
manually configure their mtn simcard for gprs internet browsing. gone are those days where you have to call mtn customer care to send you their
gprs internet settings before you can use your mobile phone to browse the internet.the era of calling mtn customer care for
internet settings has been reduced since one can easily manually configure their mtn line to browse the internet.unlike before when you need to send text for them to automatically send the internet configuration settings to your mobile phone.today i am going to share with you on
how to manually configure your phone to browse the internet
you can do it yourself without going to mtn office to connect your phone to the internet for you, although some of the latest Nokia phones do not support manual configuration of internet browsing, therefore the configuration would be sent to your mobile phone automatically when you insert your mtn simcard or you can simply create a prov file for it, you can read my post on how to create prov file for any nigeria network operator.
its very simple and we shall illustrate this by using Nokia phone for example,nokia2700.
how to manually configure your mobile phone for gprs internet browsing
step1: go to your phone settings, scroll down to configuration, then enter to personal config setting and press the left soft upper key and choose add new
step2: you will see list of configuration items, just choose "web".
step3: fill in the details like this
ACCOUNT NAME = any name you like,so we can just call it "MTN MANUAL CONFIG".
HOME PAGE= you can leave it empty or simply put any website of your choice, in this case i will use "mtnonline.com".
USER NAME= web and
PASSWORD= web
USE PREF. ACCESS PT.(i.e ACCESS POINT)= set to NO.
scroll to the next one which is
ACCESS POINT SETTING, just click it to open another list of items you need to configure.
the first one there is
PROXY, just click it and choose "enabled",scroll to the next which is
PROXY ADDRESS = 10.199.212.002.
PROXY PORT = 8080.
DATA BEARER and choose packet data.
BEARER SETTINGS,just click on it to view the list of items you will need to configure.the first one is
PACKET DATA ACCOUNT= web.gprs.mtnnigeria.net.
NETWORK TYPE = ipv4.
AUTHENTICATION TYPE= normal.
USER NAME= web and
PASSWORD= web.
you are done here.
step4: now you have to go back to your personal config. settings again and press the upper soft key, this time choose
"ACCESS POINT.
the first thing to fill is
ACCOUNT NAME= just fill any name, in this case "MTN ACCESS".
scroll to
ACCESS POINT SETTINGS, click it to view list of items to configure.
use step 3 above to configure it and that is all.
now you must activate it before it will work.to do so, just go back to your personal config. settings again, highlight the settings name, then press the upper left soft key.this time choose
ACTIVATE.
do the same for the other one to activate it.after then go back to configuration, then scroll up to the first option
DEFAULT CONFIG SETTING and choose
PERSONAL CONFIG, ok it as your default setting, then scroll down to the third item which is
PREFERRED ACCESS PT.(i.e point) and choose the one you created.
you have successfully and manually configured your mobile phone for gprs internet browsing. you can now browse with your Nokia mobile phone with any application that requires internet to work.that's all.ENJOY.
