credit card, login, ecommerce site, online banking, epayment processor etc. those kind of site have https which shows they have
ssl certificate.its not every website that have it because some don't need it.mostly blogs, personal website etc.you may ask why, well, let me explain in details,
what is the difference between http and http and why it is important.
What Is Http
http stands for
HyperText Transfer Protocol.this is the normal transfer protocol that is used to transfer information on every website.when a website is created newly, this is the normal transfer protocol the website will have except maybe they secure it will the SSL certificate ( Secure Sockets Layer ) which makes it https.when browsing through http website, this means your information is exposed and not safe on the website because it is more exposed to hackers since the environment is not secured with ssl certificate

but note that the fact that i used not secured and information being exposed does not mean that you will stop to visit any site that is not https secured.like i have said, it is not all website that needs the ssl certificate especially blogs, news site, personal site etc.so you can visit them and get information as long as you don't have any important information stored on the site like credit card details, login, payment etc.if you have sensitive data on a website and it is not secured with https, then my advice will be to stop using that site because your data/information is exposed and not secured on that site.
This is why they recommend that most login site, ecommerce, epayment processor, internet banking etc have ssl certificate because they contains sensitive data.so on the other hand
What is https
https stands for
Hyper Text Transfer Protocol Secure.you can see the secure in front of it.this means that the website is secured with ssl certificate.what it implies is that your information on that site is secured because the computer and the website will exchange information in an encrypted codes.the codes will only be used on that site to exchange information between your computer and the site so that no other person or individual can get it ( hackers ).
Encryption means that the sender and recipient agree upon a "code" and translate their documents into random-looking character strings which no one can read aside the site they are using.
Site like facebook, yahoo, gmail, twitter etc have ssl certificate installed on their server and you mostly see https instead of http. so each time you visit facebook, check the full url, you will noticed that it starts with https:// which is to tell you that the site is secured.
So when using site that involve credit cards payment, or sensitive data sharing, if the site does not have https, please do not make use of that site because you stand a risk of your data being exposed to hackers and fraudsters.also, the ssl certificate do expires.when it is expired, you will see a message telling you that this site is not secured because the
ssl certificate has expired.so take note of this.
Also, the fact that the site is secured with https, ssl certificate does not mean that one can not hack into your information online, you on your part have to be concious of the kind of site you visit and store information.
