Well, you may say i don't care to know as long as it appears on my mobile phone or device and can enable me access the internet.at least there is nothing bad if you know what they stand for so you can be able to know why they operate more than the other.back in the days most mobile phones only support gprs, edge network which enables mobile user to surf the internet on most of the low end mobile phone such as Nokia, bird, Motorola and lots more other mobile device with edge enabled. But now there is more fast speed internet data that can enable us download heavy files and stream video online.such internet speed is made possible with
3G, HSPA, 4G LTE.just imagine if edge is still the network used by many mobile network providers, it would take years to download heavy files online, not to talk of watch movies online via streaming services such as youtube, dailymotion etc.
