after the upgrade on blogger domain name switching disabled, i tried to add a newly bought domain to blogger and got a message that says
We have not been able to verify your authority to this domain. Error 12.i was surprised as you.thought it was another bug.i clicked on the link that says
settings instruction under blogger publishing settings and got an information to resolve the issue.so if you have been trying and there is no solution yet, then this post will guide you on
how to resolve We have not been able to verify your authority to this domain. Error 12 on blogger blog
note that this is not a bug.as part of blogger new rule, every newly bought domain name is to be verified by the owner by adding another
CNAME RECORD to their
DNS server.
this means that they have introduced a second CNAME record to be added to DNS server to prove that you are the real owner of the
domain name which is kind of cool since it serve as a means of protection.

the second CNAME has a unique verification key for each blogger users.it looks like this, name/host = "
dht12345677", target/destination = "
gv-(verification key).domainverify.googlehosted.com.".
so for it to work, you have to create another
cname alias and insert those verification keys accordingly i.e host = "
dht12345677" and target/destination/address = "
gv-(verification key).domainverify.googlehosted.com.".
please do not use the above verification key as its used for illustration.each blog has their own, so to get yours, click the settings instruction under your blogger publishing settings and tick the radio button that says "On a top-level domain (www.example.com)", you will see it there.
if you add every thing correctly, then you will no longer see the
We have not been able to verify your authority to this domain. Error 12. that's all.ENJOY.

ReplyDeleteVery useful information, I have a question; I have a domain with Godaddy, but it does not allow me to insert the second name under CNames, it post a warning. Should the string be added to "txt" instead?
ReplyDeleteas for godaddy, i believe blogger also made an illustration on how to go about fixing it, check the settings instruction and choose godaddy from the domain examples
ReplyDelete1and1.com does not support the 2nd CNAME method because the Key is too long for their field. After days of struggling with this, i'd recommend a different registrar for Blogspot.
